Dummer Church

AROUND DUMMER, HAMPSHIRE

Dummer is one of the smallest villages in Hampshire. The name of the village is probably derived from Dun (meaning hill) and Mer (lake or pond). The English surname 'Dummer' is thought to originate from here, as the Dummer family were lords of the manor between the 12th and 16th centuries.

Dummer had its first church, All Saints, in 1086. The oldest part of the church in existence today is the south doorway which dates from the 12th century.

About 1km south west of Dummer village is Dummer Down Farm, site of the Dummer Cricket Centre which was founded by the Major Ronald Ferguson, father of Sarah, Duchess of York.

Junction 7 of the M3 motorway is only about 1km away, giving easy access to the village. The town of Basingstoke is just to the north.
